Member Benefits

As a professional association wholly dedicated to supporting the firefighter community, IFA offers a number of programs to benefit our members. If you, or your Department, have any questions at all about any of our programs, please contact us.

The Indemnity Fund

The IFA has an indemnity fund that pays $10 per day (up to $3000) for firefighters injured in the line of duty. For firefighters killed in the line of duty the payment is $3000. Departments must be members of the Indemnity Fund, current with dues to the IFA, and current with assessments to the Indemnity Fund to be covered. The Indemnity Fund is governed by strict by-laws that must be followed to the letter for proper coverage.

A Report of Accident must be filled out and sent by certified mail to the Office of the Secretary Treasurer and received by the IFA within 30 days of the accident. Failure to comply with those requirements deems the claim invalid.

Down & Dirty DVD Training Program

Down_and_Dirt_Training.JPGThe Illinois Firefighter’s Association in cooperation with the IFSI has produced a training series of DVDs that are sent free of charge to every fire department in the state of Illinois. If your department has not received the DVDs, they can be downloaded from the IFSI website in the Resource Center.

We recognize and fully support State certification as the standard for common fire fighting skills, but also realize that many firefighters are not able to complete a full certification program. This CD set is designed to augment your in-house training program. It is a supplement to and fully compatible with state certification, but it can also be used as a part of a stand-alone training program. Our hope is that this package will help firefighters do the work of protecting their communities more safely and effectively.

Down & Dirty Firefighting Weekend

Annual training conference in conjunction with the annual meeting of the IFA. Training is at the IFSI giving firefighters in the State of Illinois some of the finest training at very reasonable prices.

Grant Program

The Illinois Firefighter’s Association gives thousands of dollars in grants (maximum of $2000 per grant) each year to member departments for training equipment. Due to diminishing funding, the grants will be on a shared (50/50) basis. Contact the IFA Secretary/Treasurer for further information.

All-State Membership

Members of the NVFC's recognized State Associations are eligible for reciprocal NVFC membership for just $15 per person. Departments enrolling all of their membership will have their Department Membership dues waived. Join the EMS/Rescue Section for an additional $15 per member.

Download the Membership/Renewal form in a fillable Word form or as a PDF.

Download the Department Roster form in Excel or PDF.
